What You Need to Know About Ontario’s Provincial Immigration Program (OINP)

All OINP programs can be broadly divided into two categories:

1. Through the Express Entry System (you must have an open profile in the Express Entry system).
2. Outside of the Express Entry system (via the “Ontario Interest” portal).

OINP Through the Express Entry System:

OINP operates through the Express Entry system in 3 streams, meaning you can receive a provincial nomination if you have an open profile in Express Entry. A candidate receives a Notification of Interest (NOI) and must submit a nomination application within 45 days, pay a processing fee, and wait for the province’s decision. It is important to note that not all candidates who receive a Notification of Interest receive a provincial nomination. Therefore, before submitting your application, it is crucial to check if you meet the specific stream requirements for which you received the NOI. This can be clarified by a licensed Canadian immigration consultant during a consultation.

OINP Outside of the Express Entry System:

Ontario’s provincial program also operates outside the Express Entry system and has 5 immigration streams:

• Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream – For skilled foreign workers who have received a job offer from an Ontario employer.
• Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream – For graduates of Canadian universities who have received a job offer from an Ontario employer in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
• Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream – For workers in in-demand occupations in Ontario who have received a job offer in TEER 4 or 5.
• Masters Graduate Stream – For graduates of master’s programs from Ontario universities.
• PhD Graduate Stream – For graduates of PhD programs from Ontario universities.

OINP Through the Express Entry System:

Ontario’s provincial immigration program also operates through the Express Entry system, with 3 streams:

• Human Capital Priorities Stream – For foreign workers with the required education and work experience who have an active Express Entry
• Skilled Trades Stream – For foreign workers with work experience in Ontario who have an open Express Entry
• French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream – For French-speaking foreign workers with good knowledge of both French and English.

Each Stream’s Specific Requirements:
