IELTS Preparation by Canadian Language Schools

The IELTS is a language proficiency test for anyone entering Canada for work, study, or long-term residence.

To apply to a Canadian college, you need to take the IELTS Academic test, while for work or immigration through Express Entry, you need the IELTS General test.

You can improve your English level for the IELTS test through special preparation courses offered by Canadian language schools. You can choose to study online from anywhere or offline in Canada.

The duration of IELTS preparation courses is approximately 4 months, depending on your starting level of English.

Pathways Courses in Canada

We recommend ILAC, a language school that offers specialized Pathways programs for students aged 16-19 years and adults 19 years and older.

The ILAC University Pathway courses help prepare you for diploma programs, bachelor’s degrees, as well as postgraduate education and obtaining diplomas and certificates.

If the university you choose accepts Pathways certificates for your program, you won’t need to take the IELTS test.

To apply for the Pathways courses, your English level should be at least Pre-Advanced. If your level is lower, you’ll need to start with general English courses.

Preparatory English Courses at College – EAP

If you’ve been accepted into a Canadian college but need to improve your English skills before starting your program, there’s a great option available: come to Canada before your program begins and start your English studies.

Important! If you are a student with a tourist visa, you can study for up to 6 months on these preparatory courses. However, if you have a Study Permit, you are allowed to study for more than 6 months.

The EAP (English for Academic Purposes) courses can last up to 9 levels, each level being 7-8 weeks. To determine how long you need to study, you should provide results from any of the English proficiency tests (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo) or take a test at the college, if available.

In addition to enhancing your English, EAP courses also prepare you for academic studies at a Canadian university in real-world conditions—such as doing homework, writing reports, and preparing and delivering presentations.
