Work in Canada After Graduation — the Right Way
Graduated from a Canadian college or university?
A Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) lets you work full-time in Canada, gain skilled Canadian experience, and build a strong pathway to Permanent Residence.
For many graduates, PGWP is the only chance to move from student → worker → PR.
Why PGWP Matters
You can:
- ✅ Work full-time, for any employer
- ✅ Get skilled Canadian work experience (TEER 0–3)
- ✅ Increase your Express Entry CRS score
- ✅ Qualify for CEC, OINP, AIP, AOS & other PR programs
- ✅ No LMIA required — employers prefer PGWP holders
Without PGWP, most PR pathways are limited or unavailable, or require an employer-specific LMIA work permit.
Timing Is Critical
You must apply within 180 days of receiving:
- Final transcript AND
- Graduation / completion letter
⚠️ One mistake can permanently cost you PGWP eligibility.
Why PGWP Applications Get Refused
PGWP is no longer “easy.”
Common refusal reasons include:
- ❌ Missing the deadline
- ❌ Passport expiry → shorter PGWP
- ❌ Unauthorized work during studies
- ❌ Incomplete or incorrect documents
- ❌ Maintained (implied) status issues
A refusal often means no second chance.
